Registration
Once your child is two years old you can complete an application form. You can request an application form on line -click on contact us link or please call in to a drop in and toy library session on Mondays and Thursdays at 1.30 pm were a member of staff is available to give you an application form and can answer any questions you may have.
Toilet Training
Children should be clean and dry before joining playgroup. In exceptional circumstances children in nappies will be accepted but parents will be asked to change their child. There is a nappy changing facility for Drop In and Toy Library users only. We request that parents/carers double bag dirty nappies in the scented bags provided and dispose of them in the lidded bin marked ‘nappies’.
Settling In
We have a settling in procedure and we request that parents/carers plan to stay with their child to complete an induction period. All children react differently to settling in and parents are encouraged to stay for at least five sessions in the first week and then leave the child according to his or her needs. Please ensure that any allergies, dietary needs of your child are known to staff.
When you join us your child will have a ‘key’ worker and it will usually be this person who does the initial meeting and your registration with you. Your child’s key worker will have regular meetings with you to exchange information and talk about your child’s general progress and development. Regular observations are part of monitoring your child’s development. Please speak to your child’s key worker if you wish to have access to your child’s observations.
Special Educational Needs
Many children need extra support for a variety of reasons. Caxton House recognises this, and staff will work with the children, keeping observations, gathering information, recording progress, identifying areas that may require special attention and share any concerns they may have with parents, colleagues and, with permission, any other relevant body.
We will work in accordance with the Department of Education’s Code of Practice and adhere to the stages of assessment process guidelines. Where appropriate we will contact other professionals to gain the best support, advice and resources for the children in our care.
Medicine
Only prescribed medicine for that child will be administered. Parents will be asked to fill in a Medical Consent Form before the medicine is given to the child
